Description:  My husband Ken has bought a 1927 colonial. He has not done many repairs. I have painted bathroom from its original color of pale lilac. The floor tiles are cracked, some have been pulled out. We have no outlet to plug electric razors, or blow dryer. Sconces with built in light switches are the only option. One expense is the huge window!!! There is no place to put a shower head above it window, which I prefer. If placed on the other side of the wall, water will spill on the floor. Please HELP!!

Description:  Our bathroom started with a toilet leak and from there it continued . Next it was the shower, so we had to gut it totally out. The old shower had mildow all the time, it was so awful. Now this project has went into our bedroom. We had to move out of it. Can not afford to have someone do it. So my husband is trying to it himself ,with little time and money. It would be nice to get anew bathroom.

Description:  The ceiling was cut away to give access to some pipes and never repaired. Pieces of ceiling from the pipe work got into the vanity light fixture which was installed upside down – to clean would require uninstalling. The vanity has water/mildew damage around the floor which is adhesive tiles stuck to the unleveled concrete slab. The shower faucets do not work. The water has been shut off because the faucets leak. Would love a working bathroom my 2 year old could use. Potty training is around the corner. :) Thanks for considering us!

Description:  The shower walls consist of a shower curtain tacked onto drywall. The walls and ceiling are ripped drywall. The floor tiles are coming up. There is no sink and no storage.
We are hoping for a new bathroom because ours is not simply ugly (and boy is it ugly,) but because it's unsafe and unhealthy. We worry about mold getting into the walls and our children stepping on fallen tacks from the shower walls.
Mom is a student who works and Dad was just laid off. We need a safe bathroom for our kids, please help!

Description:  My bathroom is definitely the ugliest. Let's start from top to bottom. The exhaust fan is rusted and sounds like a jet plane. My shower has the original tub from the 1960's in Seafoam Green. The wall is plastic that was installed after and is impossible to clean. The sink is also 1960 Seafoam Green and the vanity is speckled white and the cabinets were painted white and teal. The doors don't close because they are warped. The heater doesn't work and it is also 1960 original. Please help my ugly bathroom!

Description:  Attention!! Ambush makeover needed for our only bathroom ASAP. Lack of space for toiletries so we must resort to counter tops/floor; leaking toilet causing questionable smell and floor to lift; mold everywhere; paint peeling off ceiling/walls; leaking shower with falling tiles and gaping hole; lack of shelving in pink closet which also has hole; rust on everything metal just to name a few. We have too many other home repair projects on our to-do list and we need extra manpower. The thought of having to use our neighbor’s toilet while we putz through another home project is daunting.

Description:  My ugly bathroom is in the basement of my 2 story house in which I have lived for 43 years. My wish for a "done over" bathroom is to locate it on the first floor in an existing pantry area. (Plumbers costs to be assumed by me.) The lovely new half bath would be a most welcome addition, eliminating the need to climb a flight of stairs whenever a bathroom facility is needed and NEVER HAVING TO USE THE UGLY BATHROOM!

Description:  So, where to start? Blue and floral tiling, and wainscoting... A wood vanity with a blue sink... A broken jacuzzi tub that's enclosed in tile, so it can't be accessed... Zero storage... Narrow passage to the toilet... A small shower stall, whose door leaks, that is the only option for when I want to take a shower. And I'm a rather big guy... So please vote for me, and help me wash my back!

Description:  I bought a house that needed alot of cosmetic work. It turned out to be more work than we thought. Our bathroom smells really bad even thought I bleached the floor and scrubbed every part. Part of the bathroom's unfinished. There's pealing paint on all the walls from where I removed cheap and dirty wire racks. I can deal with the uglyness for now if I have to but the smell has to go. The picture doesn't do our bathroom justice because you can't smell the picture. Please help us fix out bathroom.

Description:  It's not the dirtiest bathroom or one with the most code violations but it is the ugliest. I am entering this for my parents. Four kids were raised with it and it's pretty much been the same since the house was built in the early 70's. It has matching blue toilet, tub and sink. A shower door was installed on top of the tub to cover up where my brother had chipped away at it with a hammer. The peeling wallpaper is from the 80's and the tile of falling apart. PICK THEM PLEASE!!

Description:  When we bought our house a year ago, there was a puddle of water on the window sill which was written off as rain water from the window being open. We soon found out that it was the result of major leaks which had done irreversible water damage resulting in serious mold growth. When it compromised the health of our children, we had no choice but to gut the bathroom, and attempt to kill the mold. We have NO money to do anything further. This is our only hope!!!!

What you don't see in my photos is the broken shower tiles, the mold around the window and floor, the leaky toilet , and cracked floor. This is not good for my son who has asthma. I am a single mother and cannot afford to update my bathroom. My son and I would be most greatful if we were to win.

Description:  NOT Pretty in Pink is more like the name of our 1956 bathroom we bought 4 years ago after my Grandfathers passing. Never remodeled, we removed the WHITE SHAG carpet only to reveal the putrid multicolored linoleum and damaged sub floor. Our cats use the shower to play ball as water flows into the downstairs ceiling lights. The only outlet attached to rusty fluorescent fixture adds to the “ambience” and displays torn butterfly wallpaper, cracked window, and falling tiles under the sink due to bursting pipes. PLEASE vote to bring this bathroom into the 21st century. Thank you.

Description:  Our bathroom is so ugly when a 7 year old walked in, she walked right back out and said to her father "Dad, somethings wrong with this". Plaster's breaking apart, the sink and medicine cabinet are hideous and too big for the room. The lineuleum floor has never seen a good day. There's not one matching piece in this bathroom!! Description:  This is the one bathroom our family of 4 shares. No storage, a plywood patched floor, and a toilet that sits beside a water damaged window. The walls are covered in cracks or crudely spackled patches. Description:  Our bathroom is still the original from 1928 with the exception of the toilet which has been replaced with one that was not made for the place where it goes. It is too far away from the wall which causes it to rock back and forth when using it. The walls are made of some kind of brick looking masonite which is almost impossible to drill holes in or keep paint on. The lining of the tub and sink are almost worn away to the metal and the tub is so high it is hard and scary to climb into

Description:  Please help us fix our ugly bathroom! My bathroom has to be the ugliest bathroom ever. It is straight out of the eighties and has a weird Miami Vice feeling. It has hideous pink tiles on the wall, and floor. No matter how we try to fix it, it's still horrible. The walls are uneven in texture and there's no possible way of making our bathroom look good. Description:  HELP NEEDED 1962 BATHROOM

My husband, Rick, and I share our bathroom with our three children. Alex 15, Nick 9, Talia 4 and my father, John.
Rick lived in this house, with his family, as a child. The house changed hands over the years, and in 2002 we purchased it.
We have slowly been renovating, ourselves, ever since. However, with both of us working long hours, Rick as a policeman and I as a nurse, time and money have prevented us from tackling this 1962 bathroom.
I love our house but I hate our bathroom. PLEASE HELP!!!

Stall shower is blue with a yellowed solid plastic folding door. Sink sits atop a painted white cabinet with a recessed medicine cabinet edged in wood with globe lights above from the 80's or older. Description:  My bathroom is the epitome of ugly! It's so outdated that my nephew thinks it's hilarious that I have a toilet that's baby blue! But so are the walls, sink, tiles, shower, wallpaper and custom blue trash can. It's screams 1960s when harvey wallbangers were in and women only wore skirts. Description:  Honestly, one would really “have to go” to be willing to use this bathroom. A 1950s original. One finds themselves surrounded by pink and brown tile as soon as the threshold is crossed. Although it’s not recommended, a person should probably keep their eyes closed when in here. Even with eyes open, showering (back and to the right) would be a challenge as there is no exhaust fan and no light. A full length mirror is constantly reminding the user what they’ve gotten themselves into. Oh, brother, what a bathroom…It’s great for guests, though!

Description:  Bathroom dates back to 1960,s without an update. Indoor/outdoor wall to wall carpet. Who knows what germs have made a home there. A shell sink sits on a fake wood finished cabinet. Wood paneling on the angled walls, with a super strange white tile ceiling. A metal copper colored medicine cabinet. Description:  We just need to say the moment we saw this bathroom 6 years ago we thought it was hideous! It is yellow tile from top to bottom complete with yellow double vanity and yellow toilet to match. The tub/shower is yellow and still has the 1970's untempered glass. We have four children under the age of 8 and the non tempered glass is a dangerous situation. We would very much like to have a kid friendly bathroom with updates that are much more paletable. While this bathroom is quite functional, it is very much an eyesore! Help us PLEASE!

Description:  Purple walls, blue wainscotting, grey tub and toilet...the pic does not do the ugliness of my bathroom justice. It's so small, the ugly grey sink with an awful painted vanity sits in my daughter's bedroom. On the other side of the wall is another equally ugly bathroom with a broken shower. Would love to knock down the wall and give my girls a fun, "working" bathroom to share!

Description:  We like to refer to this as the “pink” bathroom as we sadly have a matching blue one just as bad. Pink toilet, wallls, ceiling, tub, and a random yellow sink. We bought our 1960's home almost a year ago and although this room gets quite the use, we're not exactly sure its necessary demolish project will ever be affordable. An attempted white plastic cover was placed over the matching pink tub, so we can only imagine what's waiting underneath. Ps. this is the "man’s" bathroom, please help this poor guy out!

Description:  UGLY is absolutely correct when you look at this bathroom. yellow sink-tub-toilets?? tiles that are falling off the wall . A light that turns on after 5 minutes. The tub handle falls off, the floor is rotting where water leaks from the circa-70's sliding shower door and a toilet that runs until you jiggle the handle. a closet you can only use if the door is shut. Formica counter-tops that look like paint was splattered on them and of course, the rusty heater behind the toilet .Please rescue us from this depressing bathroom!

Well that's because the bathtub was cracked, so I removed it, hoping to get a new one someday when I have can get some $$ together. The floor is god awful. What you can't see is the toilet doesn't flush unless I stick my hand in the tank and pull up the flapper, the faucets are leaking underneath the sink. The sink itself is plastic and cracking. This bathroom is begging for rescue !

Description:  Please enter my picture in the ugliest bathroom contest. My husband started this room 5 years ago. He got as far as taking down the walls, picking up the floor, and putting up some sheet rock. Some plaster has been put up. Unfortunately, he drives a tractor trailer and is home very seldom. This room is so embarrassing that I hate to have visitors. Please help me finish this room as I am at the desperate level.
Please help me and my children to have a normal bathroom.

Description:  If you think this bathroom is ugly. You are correct!! In addition to being ugly it is dark and creepy.

A few years ago we bought a fixer upper, well it has been that...and more.

This bathroom is not comfortable for the claustrophobic person or anyone. It feels like you are under water in a dark and dreary cave.

I think light and airy, designed for today's lifestyle, would be awesome.

Description:  Being green should be a way of life not a bathroom decor. I am renovating my home to be energy efficient and unfortunately the bathroom is not in the budget at this time. My daughters enter at their own risk. My girlfriend is supposed to move in, I don’t want her to run the other way because of my bathroom. I would love it to be female-friendly. People friendly would be a plus. Hopefully The Day readers will have pity on my ugly bathroom.

Description:  With both my husband and I laid off from work our finances cannot cover a much needed bathroom renovation for our only full bathroom in the house. Our bathroom vanity is rotting away and poses a health hazard with the mold its spawn. Our walls and ceilings are cracking, floor tile separating, bathtub/shower has hundreds of cracks, very temperamental toilet, mismatched finishes, 80s outdated décor, ugly faux finished walls, mold and dust attracting ceiling, air vent needs replacing, and the bathroom seriously lacks any organization and color. Please help us get the bathroom of our dreams by voting! Thank you!

Description:  This is our lovely master bathroom. I wasn't able to fit in a picture of the matching blue shower, or the heat lamp/vent in the ceiling!! Each of our bathrooms has its own degree of uglyness- unfortunately I can't submit them all. We moved in this past winter and are slowly trying to redo each room to get it out of the '70's. Unfortunately the bathrooms are taking a back seat to replacing the orange shag carpeting in the living room and yellow countertops in the kitchen. I dare you to make this bathroom beautiful!!

Description:  This 1968 'master bath' has been an eyesore since I moved into this house a year ago. I do have another, smaller, but full-size bathroom that I've been using for the time being, also still in the 60's mode. My ranch is built on a slab and both bathrooms have yellowish linoleum floors. This master bath has the original '68 vanity, (coming apart at the bottom) with an extended, angled counter top because the bathroom is narrow. The walk-in shower has small green speckled tiles. Please rid me of this mid century bathroom.

The wall next to the tub has water damage and some tiles have fallen off. The tile around the tub area needs grout, I attempted to fix it. Description:  My bathroom is so ugly when I tried to move my cats' litter box into it they refused to go through the door. We generally keep the door closed and pretend we have one bathroom when we have company come over. I generally do all the renovating in my home by myself but this bathroom makes me cringe. When I told my children I was entering the contest they initially said they don't want the world to see our ugly bathroom but then decided it would be worth the humiliation if we should win!! A makeover is definitly needed!

Description:  I moved in 1991 and have had to look at the PINK DUNGEN ever since. I could never afford to redo it and won't be able to for a long time. I had hoped if I could throw in some burgendy color people would over look the pink. Now they just get knocked over with the burgendy and the pink holds them down. I was thinking I should just give in to the pink and paint the walls fushia. Sure would like some simple earth tones. It surely wakes you up in the morning. Thanks for letting me vent.

When we bought our house it was the "newer" room. 12 years later 5 children and ALL their friends it has taken a beating. Description:  I'm entering on behalf of my parents, who's bathroom has seen the wrath of raising four boys over 30 years.

The 1970's decor was bad in its own right, but now, in 2010, the damage also includes:

-A huge hole in the floor
-A hole surrounding the tub faucet
-Cracked tiles that stick to your feet
-Bountiful mildew/rust throughout
-An unfinished green-over-pink paint job
-Two doors that don't shut
-A leaky toilet
-Worn bathmats and shower curtains
-Boyhood graffiti

Our parents raised us with utmost love and we want to give back to them. Please vote so ...

Description:  The top floor of my house was a 1940's ranch placed upon the 1st floor. It still has the yellow & green tiles, green tub, sink & toilet. I tried to jazz up the bathroom and rag painted it yellow & purple, including the ceiling & sponge painted the same colors on the door. It looks like an Easter egg! Description:  After raising 3 children in our ranch with one bathroom, we decided it's time for a makeover. We pulled off the ancient, peeling wallpaper to reveal a nightmare: layers of cracked, puttied wallboard full of holes big enough for a hand to pass through. No matter how we try to prepare the wall ourselves, it looks worse the next day. It grows more peels and holes overnight. The trim on our moldy shower window is drenched, covered only by a lopsided piece of plastic. The sink is cracked and stained, and the closet door is broken off. Help!

Description:  Help… my YELLOW and GREEN bathroom is screaming for a makeover. I have no idea if the tub and toilet started off as yellow or turned from a bright white. The tiles have a layer of filth that no cleaner seems to be able to remove and the caulking looks like abstract art. The fixtures are covered with fuzzy green stuff that refuse to die but do complement the ugly walls. To add to this, I have to hang a warning sign to not close the door. It can’t be opened without a screwdriver and the force of two men!

Description:  The bathroom in this photo was installed in the 80's and is very disfunctional. For starters it has a hideous tile floor, towel bars mounted 6 feet high, and an attrocious vanity. There is a mirror over the sink which is decaying, a medicine cabinet which does not fill the hole that was cut out for it, and the main space of the room is only 2 feet wide. Description:  "The Dog's Room" is a very small 3/4 bathroom that is so ugly no one uses it, therefore has been designated just that. Buster, a messy Labrador Retreiver, eats in the laminate clad shower stall and we store his food on the toilet. When we do a project on the house, this is where we wash paint brushes, etc. That is the extent of this wasted space.
This room is also so poorly designed that people can hardly maneuver around-therefore I can't even take a proper photograph to show you what I'm talking about!

Description:  We just recently purchased our house and we have a total of 3 very small bathrooms that all look the same. A horrific green color with poorly applied stencils on the walls, sinks that have had better days (stained and grimmy), the cheapest mirrors you can find (simply a sheet of mirror), a toilet bowl that never seems to get clean, a bathtub that is cracked and is warped so it's not flush to the floor, and to finish it off lanolium flooring that is discolored. I hide the tub with a curtain and floor with a rug.

When we moved into our 60 year old ranch style home 8 years ago, its one bathroom was all original and a complete wreck. We tried to fix some of it ourselves, but it is now falling apart.
The ceiling is peeling and mildewy. Portions of the repaired wall are now falling apart and stained. The bathtub faucet makes loud noises when turned on.
Thank you for considering our home for your bathroom makeover contest!

Description:  Welcome to my Ugly Bathroom~ When we first moved in 5 years ago, the bathroom did not have anything in it but the old ugly tub. We dug the old vanity out from the basement. It stinks of mold and I think critters were living in it! We were able to put up insulation, a few pieces of sheetrock, and buy a new toilet before the economy went down hill. We use shower curtains for the walls around the tub. The door is a shower curtain, also. Half doesn't have walls. Nails stick up from my ugly floor. Ouch :-(

Description:  Purchased just a year ago, we had grand ideas for fixing up our 1938 home, but did'nt realize that it would take more money and more DIY effort than we could muster. Alas, the finances won't allow for big changes, so I freshened things up with new paint. Then, because we don't have a vent, our little friend mildew came. This most unwelcome guest was kept at bay with the nastiest chemicals ever which ruined the new paint. Now, it's more "gory" than "black tulip". The bathroom is so small that all of it's cracks and stains scream, "fix me"!
