Ugliest Bathroom contest winners James and Rita Hyatt of Waterford chat with Ken Bird of Dependable Contracting Services after learning they had won theday.com's contest.
James and Rita Hyatt of Waterford are the winners of theday.com's "Ugliest Bathroom Contest." Their bathroom was selected a vote of the 100-plus people who entered their bathrooms in the contest.

The Hyatts will see their bathroom transformed by Dependable Contracting Services of Waterford, The Great Wall, Cluff Carpets and Salem Stone Design.

Matthew Hyatt submitted on behalf of his parents, who raised four boys in the house they've called home for 30 years.

"Let's face it -- a foursome of boys will do some damage to any home, as my brothers and I have over the past 30 years to ours," Matthew wrote of his parents' bathroom.

"But my parents are completely selfless, hard-working providers, and renovations were never high on their priority list because they were always so busy putting others before themselves.

"The bathroom, he says, "has been particularly subject to our collective fraternal wrath throughout time. Every time something broke in the bathroom, my dad would get the duct tape out and try to fix what was wrong. As soon as I saw the Day's contest advertised, I couldn't think of a home that was more deserving. There may be a lot of damage to our bathroom, but the foundation of our family is structurally sound and rust free."

The Hyatts were among three semifinalists chosen by readers of theday.com.

Congratulations to the Hyatts!
